Updates to current work restrictions for student visa holders
From 1 July 2023, the number of hours an international student can work each fortnight will be capped at 48 hours. This cap is only applicable during semester/term time, with no limits during school holiday breaks.
During the COVID 19 pandemic, student visa work restrictions were relaxed and temporarily removed to allow student visa holders to work over the normal limit of 40 hours per fortnight, to help address workforce shortages.
The decision to reinstate the cap allows international students to focus on obtaining a quality Australian education and qualification, while remaining able to support themselves financially and gain valuable work experience.
Please note, that international students already working in the aged care are exempt from the 48 hours per fortnight limit until 31 December 2023.
